Icardi is a man that will be on the radar of every big club in Europe. The 25-year-old is Inter Milan's star player, and has proved that this season, scoring 22 goals in 24 Serie A appearances. He recently impressed with a four goal haul against former club Sampadoria, which will have no doubt drawn further attention to the player.
There have been reports of many clubs, most notably Real Madrid, being keen on bringing Icardi in during the summer transfer window, but it seems that Chelsea are looking to join the race early, submitting a first bid for the forward.
Antonio Conte's side have tabled a £55m bid, as reported by Spanish outlet 'AS'. This offer is unlikely to be accepted by Inter, given that the player's release clause is £96m, and the fact that he is in high demand across Europe, but it will be seen as a statement intent from Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea splashed out £60m on striker Alvaro Morata last summer, and have also brought in Olivier Giroud to bolster their attacking options, but the London side still seem to lack a cutting edge up front.
Icardi himself has not demonstrated any intention of leaving, and came out in the press after his four goal haul to play down talk of a move away. "I hope to have a long career here," he stated. "I want to win titles in the Inter shirt; this club hasn’t won anything for too long."
However, if clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea come knocking on Inter's door with a big offer in summer, it will be interesting to see how the Milan club responds.
